“Father” Man

Spring Symposia continue to discuss a part of changing family structure and present solutions. Last year KASAV discussed mother in family by arguing in the name of freedom, women are both exhausted and consumed and this year the subject is “male identity and father in a changing world”.

April 7th, 2013 /Istanbul

The symposium will be organized at 09.00 am on Sunday, April 7th at Eminönü Campus of Istanbul Ticaret University with participation of Asst. Prof. Aşkın Asan who is the assistant of Minister of Family and Social Policies Fatma Şahin and Dr. Sare Davutoğlu, spouse of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmet Davutoğlu. In the scope of the symposium experts will discuss issues such as how the discourse about women and women’s rights that is brought forward in our times upsets the balance since rights are never one dimensional; every individual in a family has specific rights and responsibilities; women and men are not equal but are equally.

The symposium will cover headlines such as manhood in historic process, ideal husband and ideal father, angry-violent father, weak husband-father, father in modern society/eco-politics of manhood, father as a role model, masculine viewpoint in media, addicted father and experts such as Prof. Kemal Sayar, Prof. Edibe Sözen, journalist İbrahim Kiras, Prof. Mert Savrun, Prof. Hayrettin Kara, Prof. İlhan Yargıç, Psychologist Hakan Ertufan, Clinical Psychologist Mehmet Dinç, and writer will be among speakers.
