Changing Births in a Changing World Symposium

Changing Births in a Changing World Symposium (International) 2015. On May 22nd – 23rd, 2015 we organized the international “Changing Births in a Changing World” symposium. On the first day, the course program prepared by American midwife Ina May Gaskin was applied with doctors and midwives. On the second day, changes in births today, importance of teams and environment that can provide physiology-specific follow-up on births for healthy mothers and babies, ensuring mother and baby-friendly hospital environment, and importance of teamwork in doctor-midwife relationship are emphasized.

In addition, factors such as fear of delivery among women, prejudices about vaginal delivery being a difficult process due to unendurable pain, the current state of delivery rooms being unsuitable to physiological follow-up of deliveries, insufficient numbers of midwives that can provide uninterrupted support, and gynecologists having to work without assistance are common problems during deliveries. Such issues and alternative solutions were discussed in the symposium.
